Bronze Medal For Corin Todd At Winter X

RPM_7082

Zimmerman, Minn. January 31, 2016 –  For the second straight weekend Corin Todd set new personal bests for himself and the Leighton Motorsports team, this time capturing a Bronze medal in SnoCross at the ESPN Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

The X Games competition is a pressure-packed event in which racers get just one opportunity to qualify into the 20 lap main event. Crew members Robbie Malinoski, Josh Swieton and Jake Turnbull had our Polaris machines ripping great on the all important start and Todd was able to transfer to the final by way of a third place finish in his heat race.

RPM_6325Trevor Leighton battled for most of his heat race in the eighth and ninth place positions. Leighton was making a pass for seventh place in the closing laps when he was thrown from his sled after making contact in the middle of a downhill bowl turn.

At the start of the final Todd was nearly side-by-side with eight-time defending race winner Tucker Hibbert. As the pack rounded the first full right hand corner, Todd gave chase in third place after being caught on the outside of the turn. The top three racers gradually gapped the rest of the field with little change between the second and third positions on what raced as a very one-lined track.

RPM_6735On Friday, the team claimed their second medal of the weekend when Heath Frisby claimed the Silver medal in the Snowmobile Freestyle competition riding one of our team-prepped Polaris machines. This is the second straight year in which the annual collaboration with our fellow Idahomie has resulted in X Games hardware.

The team is now back at our race shop in Minnesota where we will make a quick turnaround before heading to the AMSOIL Championship Snocross tour stop just outside of Buffalo, New York on February 5 & 6.
