Practice Crash In New York Sidelines Trevor Leighton For Remainder Of Season

RPM_7827Zimmerman, Minn. Febraury 8, 2016 – A hard crash during Friday practice at the AMSOIL Championship Snocross national in Salamanca, New York resulted in two compression fractures to Trevor Leighton’s T12 vertabrae, which will cause him to miss the remainder of the season.

Leighton was kicked sideways while flying over the finish line tabletop jump and stayed with the machine until it struck the ground at approximately a 60º angle launching him headfirst into the face of the next jump. Leighton did not lose consciousness and had full mobility and was able to return to the track the same day after being evaluated at a local hospital. As of now, doctors estimate Leighton will have to wear a back brace for the next several weeks before starting any rehab.

Corin Todd put in a strong effort on Friday night qualifying 2-2 in his heat races. Todd was pinched off around the 11th position at the start of the main event and worked his way to a seventh place overall finish.

On Saturday, Todd jumped shot out with the early race leaders in the third position. On the third lap he closed the gap on second place before having a problem in a technical high speed section after the finish line. “My best guess is that I entered the section with too much speed,” said Todd. And then once I came off, my grips were so covered in mud I couldn’t hold on anywhere.”

The riders and team will now take a well deserved couple of days off before gathering back at the race shop in Minnesota in preparation for upcoming back-to-back weekends in Michigan and Illinois beginning February 26-27.
